The story
For centuries, this part of Vienna has carried a name connected to water, movement and passage.
Werd referred to land shaped by the river — an island or piece of land surrounded by water.
Near here stood the Werdertor, one of the historic gateways between the city and the world beyond its walls.
Today, at Werdertorgasse 4, the name returns in a new form.
Werd + 4 = WERD4.

Chapter 01
The area around today's Werdertorgasse was once closely connected to a branch of the Danube.
The historic name "Werd" referred to land associated with the river and its islands.
Water shaped the landscape, the people and the life around it.

Chapter 02
In the Middle Ages, the Werdertor stood near this part of Vienna.
Beyond the gate developed a lively settlement connected to the river, crafts and everyday urban life.
The gate represented a transition: inside and outside, city and river, one world and another.

Centuries later, the story continues at Werdertorgasse 4, 1010 Vienna.
WERD represents the place. 4 represents the address.
